Sandplay Therapy

Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain

C. G. Jung

Sandplay Therapy allows gentle growth and healing. It is ‘hands on’ psychological work and a powerful therapeutic technique that facilitates the psyche’s natural capacity for healing.

Dora Kalff, a pioneer of sandplay, described it as a ‘waking dream’ as it draws on things we may not be aware of and that are deep within our unconscious selves.

“An increasing number of neurobiological research now support the fact that positive or traumatic emotional and somatic memories are stored in the limbic system – the right side of the brain, and cannot be easily accessed by words alone. Through non-verbal process like sandplay, you will be able to tap into a deeper layer of experience that is pre-verbal and unconscious. The remarkable feature of sandplay is that, as you construct the scene and give meaning to the symbols in the trays, it provides a direct link to your brain where neuropathways can be ‘re-written’ into a healthier, new configuration. It provides a pathway to access, with immediacy, the brain and the mind”

I am always in awe of the journeys people make when they engage in sandplay; at the awareness it can bring and the healing that can happen in an unconscious place that directly affects their conscious worlds. For me, it is both gentle and visceral with respect for an individual, and humanity as a whole, which I feel honoured to participate in.

Sessions available for adolescents and adults.
